United Way Yukon’s Vulnerable Seniors COVID-19 Response Fund helps address the urgent needs of individuals affected by the pandemic. Funds for the $75,000 initiative come from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program, which helps address the urgent needs of seniors and Elders affected by the pandemic.
Ten community organizations will be helping up to 2,000 individuals aged 55+ over the coming weeks, until the end of June. United Way Yukon is confident these projects will significantly enhance the quality of life for older adults in Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Burwash Landing, Haines Junction, Old Crow and via the internet (Zoom).
A wide range of activities are to be undertaken, including: food delivery (meals or hampers), household cleaning, computer and internet access, provision of health kits and basic cleaning supplies, arts/game supplies, and social programming.

Service delivery will begin right away and end by June 30, as the focus is on urgent needs. United Way Yukon has the local capacity to help ensure these funds will be used to quickly address vulnerable seniors’ most urgent needs and the capacity of our front-line agencies.
