Bringing Youth Towards Equality Whitehorse MOVE! Youth Ending Violence is BYTE’s intensive anti-violence workshop. Each session in Whitehorse in November and December 2014, and in Haines Junction in February 2015, involved youth in talking about topics like gender stereotyping, safe partying, anti-bullying, and equality. Skookum Jim Friendship Centre Whitehorse The Skookum Jim Friendship Centre is a non-profit organization committed to a vision of bettering the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical well being of First Nations peoples, fostering the way of Friendship and understanding between people. Funding provided was for an After School Tutoring Program that works with Aboriginal high school students bridging the transition from elementary to high school, rural to urban schools and providing after school assistance for high school students with special emphasis on those students with learning differences. |
Youth Lateral Violence Workshop Whitehorse Organization: Kwanlin Dün First Nation Lateral Violence is a pattern of behaviour that has its roots in a minority group’s experience of racism and oppression. Lateral violence is directed other members of the group, and includes many things: gossip, put downs, backstabbing, bullying, undermining, blaming, shaming. This project involved Yukon youth hired and mentored to develop a workshop with the goal of exposing and reducing lateral violence.
