Our Community Investment Fund has allocated $105,000.00 to the following projects in the Yukon.

Healthy People, Strong Communities

Signpost Seniors AssociationFeeding the souls of Seniors“Food feeding the souls of seniors. Nutritious food offerings and sharing social opportunities around food are important in supporting seniors to live happy and healthy lives, remaining independent and at home for as long as possible.”
Association franco-yukonnaiseSERVIS workshop“In March 2023, in order to prevent isolation and help seniors age in their homes, AFY created a supportive community exchange network called SERVIS. This network will include regular opportunities for participants to know each other while doing beneficial activities. Since inflation as a real impact on senior’s budget, a good way to reduce cost and fraternize is by doing workshop such as collective cooking session and a repair café.”
Help and Hope for FamiliesWomen’s Wellness Group“We will have a weekly routine using our gym and monthly cooking classes that improve the ladies’ everyday wellness. We will promote their ideas on what they want and try to meet their goals in health and fitness. The ladies will be inspired to share their journey in health and wellness at the end of the program.”
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Society of YukonCultural Connections with Out and About“FASSY is fortunate to have a Resident Elder who provides on-site cultural connections. Recognizing the importance of healing our community right now this project seeks to add a cultural element to our currently running Out and About program. With this project at least one Out and About event per month will be organized, led and facilitated by an Elder or First Nations expert in healing.”
Freedom Trails Therapeutic Riding AssociationTherapeutic riding and ground lessons  for people with a disability“Freedom Trails offers therapeutic horseback riding and unmounted programs for people with a disability. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for our participants. Lessons may include physical and cognitive exercises and working with participants to help them reach their full potential. Individual programs are designed to meet the participants’ needs, with goal setting by physiotherapists and teachers, when applicable.”

From Poverty To Possibility

The Victoria Faulkner Women’s CentreCommunity Kitchen“Community Kitchen is a space to build bridges of support by breaking bread. Women of all backgrounds come together to access healthy nutritious meals and food for the soul in the form of community and connection to lift them as they face life’s challenges.” 
Yukon Anti-Poverty CoalitionVoices Influencing Change“Voices Influencing Change is a training and mentorship program for people with lived experience of poverty, social exclusion or homelessness. Upon completion of the program, interested participants meet 2x month to explore and take action on issues that are affecting them and the community.”
Yukon Anti-Poverty CoalitionWhitehorse Connects“The Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition, in partnership with Yukon Learn, will host a Whitehorse Connects in May and October/2023 and February/2024.  We will provide a warm and welcoming space for anyone who may want to access free clothing, food, live music and a variety of services.  October’s Connects coincides with World Food Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Poverty.”
Haines Junction FOOD AssociationMonthly Food Hampers“The FOOD Association provides monthly food hampers and supports other food distribution opportunities in Dakwakada/Haines Junction.”

All That Kids Can Be

Big Brothers Big Sisters of YukonMentoring Project“The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yukon (BBBSY) Mentoring Project provides one-on-one and group mentoring programs, and provides professional support to matches as they navigate their mentoring journey, fostering developmental relationships between the mentors and the mentees that express care, challenge growth, provide support, share power, and expand possibilities. These developmental relationships support improvements in social and emotional competence, mental health and well-being, educational engagement and employment readiness.  In March 2023, in order to prevent isolation and help seniors age in their homes, AFY created a supportive community exchange network called SERVIS. LDAY Centre for LearningLDAY Camp Programs“LDAY camps provide the opportunity for over seventy Yukon children and youth with learning difficulties (a diganosed LD is not required) to improve their social skills, build their self-esteem, and make new friends while having fun in the outdoors, playing games, learning new skills and expressing their creativity.”
Partners for ChildrenMothering Your Baby“Mothers and their babies (birth to 1 year) are invited to join our Mothering Your Baby group for sharing, support, information and fun! Mothering Your Baby is a great way to meet other moms and discuss the ups and downs of new parenthood. Groups run three times per year, for six weeks; please follow Partners for Children on their FB page or on EventBrite.”
Partners for ChildrenParent Child Mother Goose“Parent Child Mother Goose is a group for parents and caregivers and their babies and young children aged 0-5yrs old. Learn the power and pleasure of rhymes, songs and stories as a positive parenting tool and way to bond with your child.”
